CABINET WORKSHOP IN AVIGNON
Philippe Gabriel, cabinet-maker
In 1973, the Fine Arts School of Nancy, the cradle of Art Nouveau and host to the World Expo in 1900, was for me, thanks to the talent of outstanding professors, the place and the springboard that allowed me to become a cabinetmaker and later to specialise in the restoration of old furniture from the 17th through 19th century.
From 1976 to 1979, I worked in the workshops of different professionals, which permitted me to then open my own workshop in Avignon, in 1980 then in 2004, where I have been working now for 40 years.
Furniture from the 18th century – with marquetry and French polish – as much as solid wood furnishings of diverse varieties and veneers, restored with respect for the rules and tradition, are now part of daily life in the workshop.
Know-How
Restoration of old furniture
In the gallery of restored antique furnishings, you can discover many restorations: armoires & antiques credenzas, desks & secretaries, antique dressers, chairs & armchairs, cabinets, consoles & sideboards, dressing tables & vanities, antique objects, antique tables… Many photos illustrate the stages in their renovation, from the moment they arrive in my workshop in their initial state up to the final result, when they have been resuscitated and have regained their functionality and their beautiful appearance.
