This is a dresser attributed to a family of cabinet-makers from Grenoble named Hache. It bears no signature (label stuck to the back of the furniture).
The inlaid top in olive and plum wood with unornamented parts in thuja burl was very damaged. It was necessary to partially remove the bulging or missing elements of the inlay. I did the same with the carcass – although it was less damaged, the entire piece needed a good renovation.
The dresser’s pine chest was still in its original state without any damage from insects. After a fine sanding of the entire piece and revival of the tint, I sponge applied a varnish and remounted the re-gilded bronze.
